Wearing the Rainbow: Fred Butler & Christopher Kane
I’ve been noticing a a real flavour for rainbow outfits of late, amid the more subdued pastels and watery palettes that abound for Spring. Christopher Kane’s 2012 Resort Collection led the way for this trend, with the cover of Wonderland magazine’s winter edition, which featured Charlotte Free in one of Kane’s pleated-skirt dresses, causing quite the furore on twitter amongst fashion folk. The rather fabulous bug shirt is by Frankie Morello, but bad luck if you wanted to track it down, it isn’t to ba found anywhere – not even on the Morello website!
My favourite dress from this collection is this gorgeous lace creation…
If you were at London Fashion Week or at the fabulous ‘W Project’ dinner, then you may have met Fred Butler. If you weren’t there, then there are a few things you should know; Fred is a girl, she has a wardrobe like a bag of skittles, and she makes beautiful multi-coloured and almost origami-like accessories for fashion shoots.
To get a flavour of Fred and her personality, check out this brilliant film by Style Like You in which Fred discussed her look:
I went to Fred’s presentation in one of Somerset House’s upstairs rooms during London Fashion Week in September 2011 and I took a few pictures of her designs. Neopreen is a pretty BIG DEAL right now, so I would imagine that these playsuits (or look-a-likeys) will crop up all over the place in the coming months. The shoes in the final image were created by Rosy Nicholas specifically for Fred’s presentation.
